Important information ………………..
Pleas be aware the blog has now moved to a new permanent home. Please visit www.milorambles.com and say hi !!! You are all very welcome !
While revitalising my blog I spent a little time trying to find out which widgets and plugins were available for a wordpress.com hosted blog and although there aren’t that many – certainly that I could see anyway I did come across one I have fallen in love with!! Vodpod !!!
I am certain there are other sites that cater for the individual to collate all their favourite videos found while surfing the net but this is the first one I have found that can also use in conjunction with your blog.
I digress! While I was adding videos to my account (free) I cam across an old song by Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie called “Lights Out”. It’s a wonderful homage to her dad and a very catchy tune, even if I do say so myself. I don’t think it made it big either in the UK or America but it did deserve to succeed. So I thought while adding the video to my online collection, why not drop it in a small blog posting so anyone who happens to stumble across this blog might care to take a look and judge for themselves!
Hope you enjoy it!
Well the hype is over, the red carpet worn, the stars bejangled and we now settle back – yes we the less fortunate, to our sofas and bubbly and enjoy the awards ceremony! Will it be a clean sweep for the Brits with Slumdog Millionaire and Kate Winslet or will the Americans spoil the party and win them all ?…. only time will tell. It’s over to Hugh Jackman!
I never knew Jackman could sing!!! In his own budget cut opening he charms the audience and serenades Kate Winslet!! Lmao, Jackman picks Anne Hathaway out of the audience and the two sing a duet – fair dues, she has a cracking …. voice!!! Well rehearsed but fun! This is by far the best opening to the Oscars since Billy Crystal!!!
He deservedly receives a standing ovation from the celebs!!! A few of my predictions HERE
Here we go, as it happens live …. the results !!!
Best Supporting Actress – and the winner is ………Penelope Cruz
Best Original Screenplay – and the winner is ……..Milk (Dustin Lance Black)

Best Live Action Short – and the winner is ……..Spielzeugland
Beyonce is now singing on stage with Jackman – wow how amazing does she look! She looks fit to burst out of that red dress!!! A couple of cringey moments but all in all I am loving the guest appearances and a new feel of the 81st Oscars – a nice musical interlude. I enjoyed that! Beyonce on the red carpet
Best Supporting Actor – and the winner is ……..Heath Ledger (had to be)
Best Documentary – and the winner is ……..Man on Wire
Best Documentary Short – and the winner is ……..Smile Pinki

Best Picture – and the winner is ……..Slumdog Millionaire
So there you have it, Slumdog Millionaire takes the night, a great night for the British film industry with Kate Winslet picking up the Best Actress award. Now time for some sleep!
So who’s going to win the most coveted statue (well the one you can take home with you anyway!) in the movie world. UPDATE …Complete List of winners and comments here.Like most of us I have no idea but I will take a pot shot and guess ahead of the official results tonight. I’m sure I’ll be way off the mark and despite having a reasonable idea most seasons – I haven’t seen the Slumdog Millionaire and can only go with the hype! So it’s a guess rather than an educated guess! Complete List Here
Nominated: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, Slumdog Millionaire
For me it’s a sure fire thing, between two films! Slumdog Millionaire and Benjamin Button – Slumdog will win although I’d love to see Benjamin Button win this one.
Nominated – David Fincher (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon), Gus Van Sant (Milk), Stephen Daldry (The Reader), Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) – David Fincher for me but again I think it will be a Slumdog victory.
Nominated: Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Sean Penn (Milk), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) – Without doubt between two actors – Pitt and Rourke. I thought Langella’s performance in Nixon stole that film but not strong enough for an oscar. I’m going with Brad Pitt but think the populous vote will be for Rourke.
Nominated: Josh Brolin (Milk), Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt), Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight), Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) – Heath Ledgder – FACT
Nominated: Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Meryl Streep (Doubt), Kate Winslet (The Reader) – this one is a tough decision. I thought Jolie’s performance in Changeling was remarkable while Winslet’s role harsh but powerful. However there was something missing in “The Reader” for me and with this in mind I will go for Angelina Jolie for the win.
Nominated: Amy Adams (Doubt), Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Viola Davis (Doubt), Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) – going out on a limb and will pick Tomei for the award but it will probably Cruz to Cruz!!!
So there you have it, not a huge or complete list of who’s up for what but I would be here forever listing all categories!!! Get the champagne in, chocolates and nibbles at the read and enjoy – whoever wins! let’s just hope the main stars grace the red carpet this year!!!!
Let me start by laying my cards on the table;I have never been or will I likely be a fan or admirer of Jade Goody of Big Brother fame in the UK. Sure the girl has done well for herself, nothing wrong with that and you have to feel for her now that it has been confirmed she is dying from Cancer. That said, where the hell does Jack Straw get off from allowing her Fiance (Jack Tweed) to spend the wedding night with her? The guy has been convicted of assault, sentenced for 18 months and because Jade is who she is, the curfew has been relaxed.
I seriously doubt if the average Joe would get the same treatment as Tweed. What gives Straw the right to give him special treatment? Does this now set a standard for everyone? It will certainly be interesting when the next convicted criminal wants a favour because his or her partner is dying.
Perhaps what is more worrying is that MP, hell even the Prime Minister Gordon Brown was asked questions regarding Jade Goody by the press; for the second time within a week! What is the world coming to?
I watched Sky News yesterday and a guest they had on had the audacity to compare Goody’s plight with that of Princess Diana when she died. What the frack? Goody and Diana in the same sentance? Give me a break! Going back to Jack Straw while I can; he shouldn’t get involved but he seems hell bent using the occasion as a populus decision.
As I’ve said, the fact that Jade has cancer at such a young age is devastating and I don’t think anyone would have wished that on her family. Was she right to sell her soul for the wedding and make so much money ? why not, I don’t have a problem with that. If magazines are stupid enough to pay out that sort of money good luck to those in the winners circle!
Something that has just caught my eye I’m also finding it hard to believe someone has ked for it!!! Shilpa Shetty has called for prayer and a two minute silence for Jade!!! I will remember those who gave their lives in the World Wars, I will remember those who died in New York on 9/11, I will remember devastating disasters but a two minute silence for Jade Goody ? Like hell I will!
I’ve never sat down and spent time putting stills to music but thought it was high time I practiced. Given that I was in the middle of reading Schapelle’s book and so enthusiastic about her innocence I thought why not Schapelle!
So with that in mind, I spent a few hours and came up with the following video. The stills set to Adele’s “Make you feel my love”, I thought the words rang true. Hope you enjoy it, it was great fun to collate and I hope to do another one in the future.
I was totally shocked to see that it had been well over a year since I last posted on my blog and thought it was about time I got my arse into gear and updated it with a post from 2009! Apologies to all my readers and I promise to write more often this year – even if most of it will be inane drivel!
On to my subject matter for this post! I have just finished reading Schapelle Corby’s International bestseller “No More Tomorrows” in which she talks about her state of mind, the court process, how things went from bad to worst and a frank and honest account of her time at the Kerobokan prison.
The book from start to finish is an emotional roller-coaster. It is a truly wonderful read, (can I say that I enjoyed it, is that wrong?) often frightening that this sort of thing could happen to an innocent traveller going off to Bali for a holiday. I’ve been to Bali and had a wonderful time but anyone reading this book or aware of the Corby case will surely have second thoughts about travelling.
Schapelle’s biggest crime as she admits in her book was her failure to lock her boogie board when checking in in Brisbane. I myself have no doubt of her innocence and I sincerely hope she does get justice and make it home sooner rather than later. It doesn’t look great at the moment after exhausting the appeal process – what a joke that was. But the Corby family live in hope.
The book, co written with Kathryn Bonella, took 10 months to write and is a tribute to the determination, courage and hope that Schapelle has despite the weak legal team, a lawyer who cried more often than she spoke in court and the incesant spin from Ron Bakir and Robyn Tampoe.
As described in her book, she was never going to get a fair trial and the prosecutors and the judge were only going to give the guilty verdict. Innocent until “proven” guilty was never a factor. You cannot compare Corby’s case to that of the Bali Nine but the Indonesian Government were adamant they would use Corby to make a point. Despite the harsh sentence handed down, it doesn’t appear to have stopped Westerners from drug trafficking.
I have no doubt in my mind that Schapelle Corby is innocent, she is a victim of gross miscarriage of justice and a lack of support and investigation by the AFP and Sydney and Brisbane airport security. I’m sure this post comes across as a rather one sided post but I read nothing in the book to support a guilty verdict.
I was taking a look around youtube today and came across Michael Buble’s “Save the last dance for me” video and it’s another great offering from the Canadian crooner. While watching the video I am positive the dancer he teams up with in the ballroom class is none other than the beautiful Flavia Cacace (part of the Vincent and Flavia partnership). Anyone reading this confirm that it is indeed Flavia ? I hope someone can help – it’s doing my head in !
Oh dear, it only took eight days before racism reared its ugly head once again in the Big brother house. It happened late last night during a conversation between Emily and Charley. Emily with only 19 years of wisdom behind her deemed it necessary and ok to call Charley a nigger. With the UK version under so much scrutiny following the Shilpa Shetty row with chav Jade Goody it was inevitable that the producers would not take her comments lightly.
She is a stupid girl and was a consistent presence in the major rows to erupt in the house in the last few days. I for one am glad she has gone and if this is a true reflection on how she feels she should be ashamed of herself. As I haven’t seen the comment yet (to be shown tonight on C4 highlights) I cannot judge.
Full transcript below courtesy of DigitalSpy:
Emily: (referring to Charley dancing/pushing her hips forward) You pushing it out you nigger.
Nicky: (shocked laughter) Em, I can’t believe you said that.
Charley: You are in trouble.
Emily: Don’t make a big thing out of it then. I was joking.
Charley: I know you were… but that’s some serious shit, sorry.
Charley: Oh my god. I’m not even saying it.
Nicky: Just don’t talk about it any more.
Emily: I was joking
Charley: Do you know how many viewers would watch that?
Nicky: Okay, don’t make a big deal out of it.
Charley: Fancy you saying that. I can’t believe you said that.
Emily: Somebody has already used that word in this house.
Charley: No way. (Pause) Yeah, me. I’m a nigger.
Charley: I am one. Fancy you saying it. I know maybe you see it in a rap song. Maybe you and your friends sit there saying it.
Emily: I’m friendly with plenty of black people.
Nicky: And you call them niggers?
Emily: Yeah and they call me niggers. They call me wiggers as well.
Nicky: I’m quite shocked.
Charley: I’m fucking in shock.
Emily: It’s not a big deal though is it?
Charley: Not for us it ain’t. Fuck me.
Watch tonight to find out more.
The Commission for Racial Equality said this morning that it is “relieved” that Channel 4 “acted quickly” in evicting Big Brother housemate Emily Parr for using the word “n*gger”.
In a statement, a CRE spokesperson said: “We’re relieved that Channel 4 has acted quickly. Whichever way you look at it, the ‘N’ word is clearly offensive.
“This will show everyone that racism must never be tolerated in any way, shape or form.
“We can see from this incident that there is no stereotype of a racist, they come from all walks of life, education and social background.
“Two series of Big Brother, two racist incidents – this just shows how prevalent racism really is in Britain today.”
Although I said I wouldn’t …. I did !!! Big Brother 8 is upon us and the big producers at Endemol and Channel 4 have decided to place 11 women in the house and not one man – surely the first time in Big brother history that this has happened? Yes I know a guy is going in on Friday to spice things up but I can’t help think that they’ve made a mistake with this decision – only time will tell I guess. I’ll give it a week !!!
Wouldn’t it be funny if they decide to put a very healthy attractive male in the house and watch the women squirm for attention – only to find out that he is infact Gay! Can I say that ? Oops there I’ve said it ! What would make it even funnier is if he wasn’t allowed to say he was Gay and his reward was to stay in the house if they didn’t find out ! I guess we won’t have long to find out !
I can’t for the life of me remember all the names but I will comment on a few….. The TWINS ! aargggh – someone please shoot me ! The idea of two gorgeous female twins usually would do it for me but these two are dam annoying, right from the get go with high screeching and it’s pink, it’s pink cries of satisfaction. it’s as if Big Brother designed the house just for them. The claim they do everything together will be interesting to watch during their stay – will they crack ? I hope so ! Go on Big brother, separate them !
The two lookers are the Victoria Beckham look alike (when she dresses up like her) and Charley with the most amazing set of ummmmm you know what !!!! Charley didn’t start off well with the crowd with her pre entry video tape declaring she sets the trends people follow and that she is an IT girl. Being an ex lap dancer must give her some credit surely !!!
Laura is at the moment the only other housemate of any note, a typical friendly and bubbly girl from the Rhondda Valleys in Wales she exudes friendliness and could turn out to be a cracking housemate if she’s given the chance. It just depends if her fellow pretty housemates wants someone who doesn’t conform to size zero and the glamour mags – I hope she stays for a while.
So that’s my brief summary of the situation for what it’s worth – they need to get some men in there to balance the hormones out and knowing Big brother as we do they will take their own sweet time to do it! Until they go in we won’t see the romance and sexual tension we love to watch year in year out.
Just finished watching Cold Case and what a complete and awesome surprise that the entire soundtrack from the show was made up of Tim McGraw songs – all nine of them !
EPISODE 11 “THE RED AND THE BLUE” – Season 4 is the first time I’ve ever known a programme use one artist in its entirety. The other first as far as I am concerned is the use of Nashville as the centre for a cold case – mind you, very little of Nashville is used in the programme!
Doing a search for more information on the inclusion of McGraw’s music I stumbled upon a complete track listing and description of the scene – check out the site here, it’s a great resource for music used in every cold case episode. http://www.have-dog.com/coldcase/
Tim McGraw “Just to See You Smile” Greatest Hits, Track 5 Opening Scenes.
Tim McGraw “Something Like That” Greatest Hits, Track 10 “Where i come from, a man’s word is as good as a piece of paper.” Tim McGraw “All I Want Is A Life” [?], Track [?] Dusty shows back up, after pawning the amp.
Tim McGraw “I Do But I Don’t” Everywhere, Track 5 Honey says goodbye to Truck.
Just delighted to see Cold Case use country music in one of their episodes, check it out if you can the only disappointment is that Tim McGraw didn’t guest star. I guess you can’t have everything though !
Another season draws to a close and Bauer lives on to save us from evil. Let’s face it the fact that he has signed for another couple of seasons sort of gives it away but nonetheless it’s still great to see Jack kill 11 baddies in the final episode. As far as season finale’s go it was a rather tepid one, I guess indicative of the season as a whole to be fair – not one of Jack’s strongest days! That said it certainly had its shocks and excitement – who would have thought a nuclear bomb would go off and that Jack would kill Curtis by shooting him in the neck – his buddy over the last few seasons went in the blink of an eye!!
I’m looking forward to the next season now and can’t wait to see how they pick the next president ! I can’t see Palmer coming back anytime soon and I hope for everyone’s sake that the Vice President isn’t commander in chief the next time CTU have a small problem. Mind you, anything is better than the pin cushion that is ex President Logan.
I was disappointed that Jack’s sister in law didn’t get a bigger part in the series, maybe next time. Is Jack the father ? We won’t know; will we ever find out? !
Be very interested to see what people thought of the ending of episode 24 – was it too quiet, boring ? I quite liked the last ten minutes of the programme, allowing us to see a tender side to Jack although I was just waiting for someone to whack him on the head as he sat on the bed holding her hand !! The episode ended with Jack looking down at the cliff and contemplating what to do next. There weren’t he usual kidnapping, story twist or imminent threat – it was just …….the end, very tame and certainly not a cliff-hanger (despite him being on top of a cliff!). I was surprised.
Will Bauer’s dad be alive – we didn’t see the body did we? !!! If you don’t see a body in 24 – they could be alive! Tune in next time to see how Jack saves the day. Just incase you wanted to know how many people Jack has killed in his 6 days then look no further than this great website ! It has everything you’d want to know about a kill ! Who was his first and who died by vampire bite? !!!
Sitting here watching a delayed showing of American Idol and I thought I’d make notes as the evening went for the final three. Jordin opened the show with a great performance one that oozes class. I preferred this version to the original “Wishing on a star”. Simon Cowell liked the performance but didn’t like the arrangement.
There’s no doubt the three best singers are left in the semi-final and it’s going to be hard to chose the final two from these talented singers!!! Blake’s up and singing a police classic “Roxanne”. Blake has a magnificent delivery and yet again makes the song his own with a faultless performances, very reggae!!! He ends the song with a slide towards the judges – no beat boxing ! Again Cowell keeping it real comparing with Sting’s rendition.
Now then this will be very interesting, Melinda is going to sing Whitney Houston’s “I believe in you and me”, one of my all time favourite Whitney songs!! Not the greatest offerings from Melinda but it was polished and she made it her own. It sounded a key lower than Whitney’s version and not as “sweet” but it was still a cracking attempt. After the first round I’d probably have Jordin and Melinda as the finalists.
Jordin kicks off round two with a Donna Summer number, “she works hard for the money”. A very confident song but I didn’t think it was as good as the first song of the evening. Very feisty though. The crowd loved it! Oh wow, Blake gets to sing Maroon 5’s “This Love” – this will be interesting. Welcome back to Blakesville ! This is more his music – cracking blend of beat boxing and singing – I really enjoyed this, he’s back in the game. Judges agreed with me for a change!!
Predictable choice from the producers for Melinda “Tina Turner” !!!! Never been a fan of Tina but this was a great vocal performance. She has really grown in stature during the series and a cert for the final after this rendition. Brilliant. Best I’ve seen her move on stage. So after round two Melinda still out front but Blake has come back on par with Jordin.
Jordin once again kicks off the final round with “I who have nothing” – good performance but it wasn’t outstanding but for two notes towards the end. Jordin has been amazing throughout and only time will tell if she makes it to the final. Blake’s up with yet another kick ass effort, this guy’s album will be awesome winner or not !!! I think after this performance he did enough to make the final two with Melinda. Very confident performance. Randy is talking through his big “bleep” !!! He really has no idea what he’s talking about.
Melinda closes the final round with “I am a Woman” – very sassy performance, the crowd loved it and America will love it !!! All round it was Melinda’s night and I stand by my earlier prediction that Melinda and Blake will be in the final although I’d be gutted to leave anyone out !!!
So this is it, we are down to the results and following emotional home visits it comes down to the viewer votes ! You have to love Blake’s father !! The first one to go through is ……..Jordin. I didn’t see that coming. Surely this means Melinda will claim the other spot making it an all female final………….. Oh My God…… Blake makes it into the final, the place is in shock. I guess we all know that Melinda will make it in the real world – Melinda we salute you!!! Fox’s interview with Melinda Here
NBC have released their new schedule and there are a couple of disappointments even though they were expected to a certain degree.
NBC has emphasised “quality” and 360-degree commissioning as two key planks of its 2007-08 schedule unveiled this afternoon in New York.
The network’s upfront presentation to advertisers revealed a schedule with five new dramas, a new comedy imported from Britain, and an alternative programming slate featuring a singing competition and a new dance-based reality show from American Idol judge Randy Jackson. The new shows will replace casualties including the critical favourite but severely ratings-challenged Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and the long-running Crossing Jordan. Digital Spy carry the story …..“Last year we promised a return to the NBC legacy of quality, and in terms of awards, buzz and critical acclaim, that’s just what we delivered,” said NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly. “We’ve got the class and next season we’re ready to add some mass, with new shows that build on the creative accomplishments of last season and are as broad as they are good. Combine the energy of these new programmes with the bulked-up strength of our existing NBC hits and you’ve got a lineup that’s poised to take us to the next level.”
The presentation contained some expected moves: Friday Night Lights is off to Friday nights and Law and Order has been been moved to the 8pm slot on Sundays. There were also some quirks, with 30 Rock and The Office flipping timeslots in an effort to build an audience for the former.
There was good news for Heroes fans – as part of the 360 degree commissioning drive, creator Tim Kring will work on 6 episodes of a spinoff, Origins, featuring an entirely new cast. The episodes are expected to air after the regular Heroes season ends and the most popular character from the miniseries, as determined by a web vote, will be introduced to season three of the main show.
New dramas for 2007-08 on the NBC schedule are Journeyman, a new Monday night series which NBC’s Reilly said received some of the highest scores in internal testing the network has seen “in years”; Chuck, a comedic spy-thriller from The O.C.‘s Josh Schwartz; Bionic Woman, a remake of the classic 1970s series starring ex-EastEnder Michelle Ryan; Life, a new crime drama starring Damian Lewis as a “complex” and “offbeat” detective; and Lipstick Jungle, a dramedy following the story of fashion magazine editor Nico, played by 24‘s Kim Raver.
An American version of The IT Crowd counts as the network’s sole comedy pickup and is expected to appear midseason. The Soup‘s Joel McHale and Richard Ayoade from the original UK series star alongside Chicago Hope‘s Rocky Carrol.
On the alternative slate is World Moves from American Idol judge Randy Jackson and the creators of the World Hip Hop Championship. The series, billed as a “live television event” by NBC, will follow dance teams from around the world competing in Los Angeles for an international touring contract. New alternative programming will also come from The Singing Bee, in which contestants must sing the lyrics to popular songs.
America’s TV networks will this week unveil their 2007-08 schedules to advertisers and viewers in a series of upfront presentations so named because they are designed to allow advertisers to buy commercial spots “up front” before the season gets underway. Digital Spy
Up first will be NBC with its presentation today (Monday) at 15:00 Eastern (20:00 UK). It is expected that a wide-ranging revamp of the network’s entire schedule may be announced, with even long-time Thursday-night anchor ER possibly to be moved. Friday Night Lights is expected to move to Friday, and it remains to be seen where a possible seventh season of Scrubs will end up.
ABC will make its presentation at 16:00 Eastern (21:00 UK) on Tuesday and confirm what will be happening with Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice (Wednesdays at 9pm is rumoured) and Men In Trees, which was beaten by its midseason replacement October Road in the ratings.
Next up will be CBS, opting to make its presentation at 14:00 Eastern (19:00 UK) on Wednesday. It is still unclear as to whether Jericho, which had its season split and was moved around the schedule in search of viewers during its first run, will get a second season.
The CW will announce whether Veronica Mars will be staying or going at 10:30 Eastern (15:30 UK) on Thursday; Fox will round out the week with its 16:00 Eastern presentation also on Thursday. To watch for: will Brad Garrett’s ‘Til Death end up slotted next to Back To You, which stars fellow Everybody Loves Raymond alum Patricia Heaton?
Be very interesting to see what happens this week, it’s always a pivital week for all concerned especially the fans that see their beloved programmes sent to the vitrual graveyard slot or indeed cancelled. Only time will tell but we are hours away from knowing !!
